As previously reported, Klay Thompson signed a 3-year, $50 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks via sign-and-trade.
Famous NBA insider Chris Haynes discussed the Lakers’ prospects after missing out on Thompson:
“They (the Lakers) missed out on Klay. They felt like they had a real chance at him, and now they have to pivot. So who’s left out there? DeMar DeRozan is the biggest-name free agent still available. That would require a sign-and-trade or the Lakers getting creative, moving some pieces, clearing cap space to make room for DeRozan.”
“I know there has been communication between the Lakers and DeMar’s agent, Aaron Goodwin, about either a one-year deal or a three-year deal through a sign-and-trade. Considering they missed out on Klay, I would think their next target would be DeMar DeRozan. There have been ongoing conversations between the Lakers and DeMar, gauging interests. But nothing substantial, just feelers being put out there.”
