June 30 update: Per renowned sports journalist Woj, Kevin Love will decline his $4 million player option, though it is expected that he will re-sign with the Miami Heat once free agency begins.
Per league rules, teams can begin signing free agents as of July 6 (local time).
Love, who turns 36 in September, played 55 games for Miami last season, averaging 8.8 points and 6.1 rebounds with a 34.4% three-point shooting percentage.
Last year, he helped the Heat reach the NBA Finals, while this spring, they were eliminated in the first round by the Boston Celtics. Despite being in the latter stages of his career, Love remains a strong rebounder and a space-creating big man.
In his 16-season NBA career, Love has played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Heat. He won an NBA championship with LeBron James in 2016, was a five-time All-Star, and twice named to the All-NBA Second Team. He signed with the Heat midseason in 2022-23 after reaching a buyout agreement with the Cavaliers, ending his eight-plus-year tenure in Cleveland.
