Shenzhen Basketball Team Official Statement: Club Operations Are Normal, "Supermarket" Description Is Inaccurate

On June 27, after announcing Zhou Peng as the new head coach for the upcoming season, Mr. Lu Jun, the vice general manager of the Shenzhen New Century Leopards Basketball Club, spoke to the Shenzhen Evening News addressing several topics of public interest.

Lu Jun stated that considering Zhou Peng’s impressive career, both with the national team and in the league, he is an exceptional player. The 2024-2025 season will be Zhou’s 19th in the league, and his wealth of experience is expected to bring about changes for the Shenzhen team. During Zhou’s two seasons with the club, the intention was to have him assume some coaching responsibilities, including training, matches, and locker room dynamics. During the off-season, Zhou also expressed his confidence and determination to lead the Shenzhen squad successfully.

This off-season, there has been much speculation surrounding the Shenzhen Marcopolo, including rumors of “operational difficulties, Shenzhen Basketball Team selling players like a supermarket” and “offloading key players.”

In response, Lu Jun clarified that the club’s operations are currently normal, and descriptions like “opening a supermarket” are not accurate. He attributed such misinformation to unscrupulous social media accounts and urged fans to discern fact from fiction.
