On July 17, in the NBA Summer League, the Portland Trail Blazers narrowly defeated the Washington Wizards 82-80. Chinese player Cui Yongxi received playing time for the second consecutive game, contributing 3 points in his 10 minutes on the court. In a post-game interview with the media, Cui discussed the reasons behind his decision to venture into the NBA.
Cui Yongxi stated, “Many people say that the domestic environment is like a greenhouse, and it’s true that your competitive level doesn’t improve much when you play at home. This is a fact. Since my coach also encouraged me to come out here, and since I’ve experienced the intensity of the game here, I have a different role in the CBA. Sometimes, everything goes smoothly in a game, and I can score 30 or even 20 points. But when you’re in a different rhythm here, you might have to adapt just like you did when you first joined the CBA. These are different kinds of improvements. So, going abroad isn’t a bad thing.”
