Kuric and James on Leonard's Departure: He Definitely Wanted to Stay, Wishing Him All the Best for the Season Ahead

On July 11, following a warm-up game where the USA men’s basketball team defeated Canada 86-72, LeBron James and Stephen Curry both addressed Kawhi Leonard’s withdrawal from the national team.

Curry stated that he knew Leonard was eager to play for the national team, and with his departure, the team has lost one of its best players.

“He was in great form during his time with the national team. However, considering the upcoming NBA season and his long-term career, he had to make this decision. We hope he prepares well for the new season,” said Curry.

James commented, “Obviously, this decision was made jointly by Leonard and the USA Basketball team. He definitely wanted to stay and play here. Right now, we wish him all the best, and that’s what matters most.”

Moreover, James mentioned that no matter what happens this summer, they will strive to win the gold medal.

James also discussed the alley-oop play with Curry during the game, stating that it’s their favorite way to play basketball.
