Foreign Media: Thon Maker and Bol Bol May Withdraw from South Sudan Training Squad Due to Suns & FIBA Interference

On July 14, foreign media reported that Bol Bol and Thon Maker have withdrawn from the South Sudan men’s basketball team’s campaign for the Paris Olympics.

Bol Bol fears being dismissed by the Suns and may choose to withdraw from the national team; he is currently training with the Suns. Additionally, Maker has played in Australia, which violates FIBA rules, and South Sudan is working to resolve this issue.

In the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, South Sudan outperformed the Chinese men’s basketball team to advance from the group stage.

In the Paris Olympic group stage, South Sudan is grouped with the United States, Serbia, and Puerto Rico in Group C.
