Kobe's second statue will be unveiled on the local date of the month, featuring him and his daughter Gianna

August 2 news: The statue of Kobe and his daughter Gianna is scheduled to be unveiled on Friday, local time, in a private tent outside the Lakers’ home arena. This statue is the second of three planned monuments to honor Kobe, who died with Gianna in a helicopter crash in January 2020. Kobe’s first statue was a 19-foot-tall bronze figure, erected to commemorate his 81-point game against the Toronto Raptors, which was unveiled on February 8, local time. The date of Friday, local U.S. time, is August 2, symbolizing Kobe’s jersey numbers (8 and 24) and Gigi’s number 2, which she wore on the basketball court at age 13. The statue of Kobe and his daughter is located near the Los Angeles Kings’ 50th-anniversary monument and will be open to the public after Sunday. At the ceremony in February, Kobe’s wife Vanessa revealed that the third statue of Kobe will depict him wearing his Lakers No. 24 jersey. Sources say this third statue is expected to be unveiled at some point next season.
