Recently, the Bucks’ head coach, Doc Rivers, participated in a podcast with renowned journalist Bill Simmons. During the conversation, they discussed the US men’s basketball team winning gold at the recently concluded Olympics.
He said, “Ten years ago, the US team won gold because we were more athletic (we could rely on our physical abilities to overpower our opponents). Now, the US team wins because of our shooting ability. What’s astounding is that our players are now more skilled. This is the difference between the current US team and those from the past.”
In other words, what Doc Rivers implies is that the current NBA environment has changed, with players possessing stronger shooting abilities but less physicality compared to before.
