Poor Performance! Australian Starting Player Scores Only Three Points, Three Main Players Fail to Deliver

On the morning of August 10th, in the women’s basketball semi-final of the Paris Olympics, Australia lost 64-85 to the United States and failed to reach the final. They will now compete for the bronze medal. In this game, Australia’s five starting players performed poorly, scoring a combined total of only 23 points.

Australia was one of the favorites to win a medal at these Olympics, with seven active players from the WNBA, and they were considered the team most likely to pose a threat to the U.S. women’s basketball team. However, against the strong U.S. team, Australia only held out for one quarter before being outscored 25-11 in the second quarter. They eventually lost by 21 points and missed out on the final. They still have a chance to compete for the bronze medal.

In this game, all five of Australia’s starting players came from the WNBA, but their performance was very poor. The highest scorer, Melbourne and Smith, only had 7 points each. Melbourne made only 3 out of 10 shots, Magbegor made 1 out of 6, Whitcomb made 2 out of 9, and together they only hit 6 out of 25 shots. The starting players almost all had cold shooting hands and scored a combined total of only 23 points.

On the other hand, Australia’s bench players performed well. Megan and Bolle both scored in double digits, with Bolle scoring the highest of the team with 11 points. She became a surprise player in the second half, leading the team to narrow the score gap. Toro also scored 8 points, and the bench players scored a total of 41 points, 18 points more than the starting players.
