Lakers Owner Jeanie Buss: The Success of Hiring Redick Will Be Determined by Results; She Believes in His Ability to Develop Young Players

On August 24, one of the main reasons for the skepticism surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers this new season is their decision to hire J.J. Redick as head coach.

Recently, Lakers owner Jeanie Buss discussed during a show why the team chose Redick.

Buss said, “We wanted to think outside the box, so we were looking for someone who could bring a different perspective and truly invest in developing young players. Redick was the right fit for us.”

“As for whether hiring Redick as head coach is right or wrong, I hope the results will speak for themselves, so I don’t want to overhype it and claim it will be a successful choice. We need to give him time to build what he wants to build. I am impressed with his coaching staff. Currently, players are not required to attend training sessions, but they have already started coming voluntarily. Redick’s coaching staff has extensive experience that can help him adapt to the role of head coach. As a veteran with a 12-year NBA career, he knows this league very well, and I believe he will be an excellent head coach.”

Lakers fans hope so too, but all these responsibilities now fall on Redick’s shoulders. However, he knew about and was willing to take on these responsibilities when he applied for the job. The Lakers need patience, giving him a few years to establish his system and plan, during which the Lakers might also undergo a transformation in their on-court lineup. Only then will we see if this was a successful hire and if the Lakers are beginning to approach problems differently.
