Today, Rockets player AJ Griffin spoke about why he decided to end his basketball career.
“I have chosen to end my basketball career in order to follow Jesus. To the outside world, this may seem like a loss, but I am really happy because I can now serve the Lord with all my heart. I want to be fully committed and use all of my time for this.”
Griffin also mentioned that he truly became a Christian in 2020, before which he believed that basketball was everything to him.
Some netizens expressed that they could not understand Griffin’s decision, believing that he could maintain his religious faith while continuing to play basketball.
Griffin responded by saying,
“I understand, but this is my personal faith. I’m not saying that everyone must give up basketball or sports, but I want to dedicate everything I have to the Lord. God bless.”
AJ Griffin is currently 21 years old and was the 16th pick in the 2022 draft. Last season, he played 20 games for the Hawks, averaging 2.4 points per game. He was traded to the Rockets during the off-season.
He is the son of former Bucks head coach Adrian Griffin.
