Kawhi Leonard to Miss Parts of Training Camp Due to Ongoing Knee Injury; Clippers Uncertain About His Return

On September 25, the Los Angeles Clippers announced an update on Kawhi Leonard’s condition, stating that due to his ongoing knee recovery, he has not been cleared to participate in training.

Earlier today, Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue and President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank provided updates on Leonard’s rehabilitation progress at the Intuit Dome.

Frank announced that Leonard will not take part in certain aspects of the training camp, with the team’s current focus being on “strengthening” his knee.

Frank stated: “Kawhi’s right knee has shown significant reduction in swelling. It’s almost gone… We will keep him away from some of the high-intensity parts of the training camp and focus on strengthening his knee.”

Will Leonard be ready for the season opener? Frank responded: “It depends on how his knee reacts to each stage… We’re moving in a positive direction… but when it comes to the body and health, you can’t set timelines.”

Since being sidelined on April 27 due to inflammation in his right knee, Leonard has been in recovery. Frank also noted that Leonard is currently in “good spirits.”

When asked if he believes the Clippers are a championship-caliber team, Frank replied: “I never put a ceiling on a team. What I mean is… I know what Las Vegas thinks of us… I’m not going to put a ceiling on what we can or cannot achieve… “

The Clippers’ preseason games will begin on October 6, followed by matches in Seattle and Inglewood. For the regular season, the Clippers will face the Phoenix Suns in their home opener on October 24.
