On September 12, the recent CBA physical fitness tests have sparked extensive discussions. Wang Jian, an expert on European basketball and NBA draft, also shared his views on this matter.
Wang Jian: “In fact, every year during the NBA draft team tryouts, there is a shuttle run test similar to the one in the CBA fitness assessment, but the rules are slightly different. In the NBA tryouts, it’s a 3-minute endurance test to see how many rounds of shuttle runs can be completed, whereas in the CBA, it consists of four sets of 17 shuttles with a two-minute break between each set. During his shuttle run test with the Utah Jazz this year, Cui Yongxi completed 29 rounds in 3 minutes. Back when Yuta Watanabe tried out with the Phoenix Suns, he set a record by completing 30 rounds, which is equivalent to 20 shuttles in 60 seconds.”
