Today, the Houston Rockets officially announced the passing of a significant figure, former General Manager Carroll Dawson, at the age of 86.
Dawson served as the Rockets’ General Manager since 1996. He is perhaps best known among Chinese fans for drafting Yao Ming with the first overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft, and for trading Francis, Mobley, and Cato to the Orlando Magic in 2004 in exchange for superstar Tracy McGrady, along with other players, forming the iconic “Yao-McGrady” duo.
His jersey, bearing the initials ‘CD’, will forever hang in the rafters of the Toyota Center.
