Beijing VS Guangsha Preview: Zhou Qi Expected to Make Debut, Complete Beijing Team Aims for a Strong Start

At 19:30 on October 3rd, in the CBA preseason games at Yueyang, Hunan, Beijing Shougang faces off against Zhejiang Guangsha.

Beijing Shougang made significant moves during the offseason, signing several strong reinforcements. All of their foreign players were replaced, with the signings of Jermaine, Omot, and Solomon. Among them, Jermaine and Omot both played in the CBA last season, with Jermaine proving himself as a super scorer during his time with Qingdao and Fujian. Omot is a South Sudan national player who performed excellently at the Paris Olympics and averaged 25.1 points per game last season in Ningbo. Solomon is less well-known but participated in the first stage of the preseason games, showcasing decent skills in scoring opportunities and rebounding.

In terms of domestic signings, Beijing acquired two major reinforcements in Zhou Qi and Chen Yingjun. Zhou Qi is currently the strongest domestic center, whose dominance is self-evident, although his back injury remains a concern. Chen Yingjun is one of the best guards in the CBA, having already participated in the first stage of the preseason games with notable performances. Zhou Qi missed the first stage due to national team training, but he will play in the second stage, likely making his debut for his new club in the match against Guangsha.

After acquiring Zhou Qi, Chen Yingjun, and three new foreign players, along with the existing core group including Zeng Fanbo, Fan Ziming, Fang Shuo, Zhai Xiaochuan, Lei Meng, Tian Yuxiang, and Zhang Cairen, Shougang’s roster is now considered luxurious, boasting strong players in every position, making them one of the favorites for the championship this season. All three foreign players have completed registration, and Zhou Qi has confirmed his participation. The match against Guangsha could see the complete Shougang lineup making its first appearance.

Zhejiang Guangsha also made significant moves during the offseason, renewing contracts with their three key players, which was arguably the biggest move. The core of the team remains intact, and they selected Lin Bingsheng, a Taiwanese guard, with the fourth pick in the draft, another important signing. Lin Bingsheng performed well in the previous preseason games.

Sun Minghui, Hu Jinqiu, and Zhao Yanhao remain the foundation of the team. Sun Minghui is the absolute core of the backcourt, playing a role more significant than that of foreign players. Hu Jinqiu is the core of the frontcourt, having recently gotten married, while Zhao Yanhao maintained good form after returning from injury. As long as the three key players stay healthy, Guangsha’s competitiveness can be guaranteed.

In terms of foreign players, only Knight participated in the first stage of the preseason games. Standing at 2.08 meters tall, he excels in rebounding, scoring 27 points and 20 rebounds against Jilin, achieving double-doubles in all three preseason games. Carlton, the big man, just finished his NBL season, averaging 22.5 points and 11 rebounds, enhancing Guangsha’s frontcourt strength with the two big men.
