October 31, 2023 – The latest MRI results show that Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball has a wrist sprain between Grade 1 and Grade 2, which will keep him out of action for at least 10 days.
Ball injured his right wrist during the first quarter of Tuesday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies when he fell while attempting a steal and landed on his right hand. He felt discomfort in his wrist at halftime but continued to play after having it taped. He played for 18 minutes, scoring 6 points and dishing out 6 assists. Earlier, while wearing a wrist brace, Ball said, “I felt the pain, but adrenaline kept me going. I just wanted to win the game. The pain didn’t really affect me, and I hope to get it taped up and get back on the court as soon as possible.”
“If I continue to play while it’s swollen, it could turn into a Grade 3 sprain, which would require surgery. Obviously, I want to avoid that. I need to reduce the swelling and hope to get back on the court with it taped up as soon as possible.”
Ball, 27, has played three games this season, marking his return to the NBA since January 2022 after undergoing multiple surgeries on his left knee. This season, he is averaging 4.7 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.7 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per game.
The team plans to gradually acclimate him to game action, avoiding back-to-back games and reducing training intensity. So far, there have been no issues with Ball’s knee.
Although the wrist injury is a setback, the team believes it will not have a long-term impact on his performance. “It’s an unfortunate moment, but these things happen,” Ball said. “I hope to recover quickly and get back on track.”
