News on June 15 reveals that Philadelphia 76ers guard Cameron Payne was arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona, facing two charges: failure to provide a true name and giving false information to law enforcement.
According to local police, at around 2:44 am local time, officers responded to a disturbance call in Scottsdale, where they encountered Payne and another individual.
TMZ Sports stated in its report, “It’s unclear what exactly went down — cops aren’t divulging many specifics — but the Scottsdale PD says Payne was taken into custody on the scene for the misdemeanor charges of failing to provide a true name and giving false information to law enforcement.”
“We’re told the 29-year-old NBA player was later released,” the sports news outlet added.
As per Arizona’s ABC 15 on the same day, details about why police were called to the disturbance have not been disclosed, nor has there been any additional information regarding Payne’s arrest.
Payne, 29, has been playing in the NBA since 2015, having suited up for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Phoenix Suns, Milwaukee Bucks, and currently the 76ers. He is best known for his time with the Suns. The soon-to-be free agent, who hails from Memphis, was traded to the 76ers mid-season last year, averaging 9.3 points and 3.1 assists per game.
