On June 19, according to Shanghai-based team reporter Xue Sijia, forward Ren Junwei will not be returning to the Shanghai team for the upcoming season as the club has decided against extending his contract.

Last season, Ren played 42 games for Shanghai, starting in 22, averaging 23.8 minutes, 5.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game with a field goal percentage of 43.7% and a three-point shooting percentage of 28.8%. These figures marked new lows since he joined the Shanghai Sharks. During the playoffs, Ren virtually vanished from the main rotation with the emergence of Li Hongquan.

It’s worth mentioning that in a regular-season game against Nanjing, Ren intentionally elbowed Wei Yi, causing a concussion. The CBA league office penalized Ren with a two-game suspension and a fine of 100,000 yuan.
