According to recent media updates, American super-welterweight contender Vergil Ortiz Jr. (21-0, 21 KOs) is set to return to the ring on August 10 in Las Vegas to challenge WBC super-welterweight interim champion Serhii Bohachuk (24-1, 23 KOs), with the fight being broadcast on ESPN.
The 26-year-old Vergil Ortiz Jr., currently ranked number one by BOXREC at 154 pounds with an unblemished record of 21 wins and 21 knockouts, has already fought twice this year, stopping Freddie Lawson and Thomas Dulorme in the first round. Initially, he was scheduled to face former WBO super-welterweight champion Tim Tszyu (24-1, 17 KOs) on August 3, but Tszyu withdrew due to an injury that had not fully healed.
Serhii Bohachuk, 29, boasts a professional record of 24 wins and one loss, with 23 of those victories coming by way of knockout, ranking him sixth by BOXREC at 154 pounds. Standing at 6’0″ with a reach of 73 inches, Bohachuk captured the WBC interim title in March with a dominant points victory over Brian Mendoza. His sole defeat came via an eighth-round TKO against Brandon Adams (24-3, 16 KOs).
