Tyson Fury: My Mistake Against Usyk

In recent comments, former two-time world heavyweight champion, the “Gypsy King” of Britain, Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KO), told the media that his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KO) on May 18 was due to a moment of carelessness. He admitted to being too relaxed during the fight, which ultimately led to a setback in the ninth round.

Fury said, “Yes, I lost. But there’s no need to cry over past mistakes; let it go. But everything that happens has a reason, maybe God’s plan. Although I believed I could have won, I lost by a disputed points decision. But that won’t affect me. Even if I had defeated Usyk and become a four-time heavyweight champion, my daily routine would still include sending my kids to school and walking the dog. Why did I lose to Usyk? Because I was too relaxed in the ring, even joking with him. I was enjoying the fight too much, almost playing around, which cost me dearly in the ninth round.”

Fury will now face Usyk again on December 21 for their rematch, with current odds favoring Usyk at 1-2. In their first encounter, Fury performed well in rounds 3-7 with his movement strategy causing difficulties for Usyk, but Usyk adapted and Fury’s stamina became a factor.
