Yesterday afternoon, current WBC lightweight champion and three-division world titlist Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) secured a dominant 12-round points victory over Armenian-German Aram Avagyan (12-2, 7 KOs) in his first world title defense in Newark, New Jersey.
Following the bout, Stevenson declared, “Tell Lomachenko, let’s make it happen. Wouldn’t that be a great fight? We’ll get in the ring and give it our all. If it happens, it’s going to be a big one. Technically, it’s gold. People might say Lomachenko can beat me but not knock me out. Some don’t believe in me, so why not make this fight? The problem is Lomachenko doesn’t want it.”
Lomachenko had initially planned to unify with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) in November. However, according to Davis’s co-trainer Kevin Ellis, Lomachenko is now considering having Davis face Stevenson first, with the winner then battling Lomachenko in 2025.
