Tony Bellew: George Foreman Was the Ultimate Heavy Hitter in History

Recently, former world cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew (30-3-1, 20 KOs), speaking to the media, claimed that former heavyweight kingpin George Foreman (76-5, 68 KOs) was and remains the most formidable puncher in boxing history.

Bellew stated, “Deontay Wilder (43-4-1, 42 KOs) is just the biggest puncher in boxing right now, but when it comes to the all-time greats, Wilder doesn’t make the cut. Without a doubt, George Foreman was the hardest hitter in boxing history. He always knocked out whoever was in front of him. Foreman stopped Joe Frazier. Frazier was the undisputed heavyweight king at the time, who had beaten Muhammad Ali, but Foreman’s uppercut put him down. He also KO’d Ron Lyle and heavy hitter Ken Norton. At 40, Foreman returned to the ring and knocked out Michael Moorer, who had previously defeated Evander Holyfield.”

Foreman boasts an impressive professional record of 76 wins, 5 losses, with 68 of those victories coming by way of knockout. His final bout took place in November 1997, when he lost a controversial majority decision to American Shannon Briggs (60-6-1, 53 KOs), who was at the peak of his career at the time.
