Mosley: I Still Predict Usyk Beating Fury

Former three-division world champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley (49-10-1, 41 KOs) recently told the media that he still favors Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) to defeat Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) in their highly anticipated rematch on December 21.

Mosley said, “I picked Usyk before their first fight on May 18 because I believed he would bring his strengths into play. Usyk moves very nimbly, like a butterfly, and has exceptional speed, which makes him a difficult opponent for Fury. Considering the power of heavyweights, Fury’s punches aren’t particularly devastating. Therefore, Usyk shouldn’t face a significant threat and can win by decision.”

Mosley continued, “I think the second fight will be similar to the first if Fury doesn’t change his approach. If he doesn’t move more, doesn’t have a sharp jab, or fails to control the distance, he’ll lose again. But if Fury comes out with a new strategy, there’s a chance for him to win.”

Currently, Usyk is favored at 1-2 odds. In their initial encounter, Fury had an advantage in rounds 3 through 7 with his elusive style. However, Usyk absorbed a few uppercuts while pressing forward. For the rematch, it’s expected that Usyk will modify his approach, alternating between advancing and retreating to prevent Fury from setting traps as he did in those middle rounds.
