Today, Mexican lightweight powerhouse William Zepeda (30-0, 26 KOs) and American boxer Gabriel Cabera (22-1, 7 KOs) faced off at the weigh-in ceremony at the Toyota Center in Ontario, USA. On July 7th, Beijing time (Sunday), the pair will collide in a scheduled 12-round lightweight bout, streamed live on DAZN. Zepeda weighed in at 135 pounds, while Cabera came in at 137 pounds. As no titles are on the line, the weight difference does not affect the contest.
The 28-year-old William Zepeda boasts an unblemished professional record of 30 wins with 26 knockouts, currently ranked fourth by BOXREC at 135 pounds. Standing at 5’9″ with a reach of 69.5 inches, the southpaw has an impressive KO percentage of 86.67%, second only to Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) among top lightweights. If he continues his winning streak, a shot at a world championship title is imminent.
At 29, Cabera holds a record of 22 wins and one loss, with seven of those victories coming by way of knockout, placing him sixteenth in the BOXREC lightweight rankings. Also standing at 5’9″, he has a reach of 66.9 inches. His sole defeat was a close and controversial decision against current WBA Super Lightweight champion “Pitbull” Isaac Cruz (26-2-1, 18 KOs), a performance that many believe undervalued his abilities.
