Today, British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn told the media that he hopes to arrange a unification bout for current IBF welterweight champion Karron Ennis (32-0, 29 KOs) later this year and have him challenge Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) next year.
Eddie Hearn said, “Karron Ennis needs to unify the 147-pound division first. He will eventually move up to 154 pounds, but there are significant fights waiting for him at that weight. Turki Alarashi asked me if Ennis could fight Crawford. I said yes, but it would be in 2025. Ennis has another fight scheduled for October or November. If possible, I want to feature Ennis on the undercard of Beterbiev vs. Bivol in October, or have him face Crawford in a big stadium fight next year.”
Crawford is set to move up to 154 pounds on August 3rd to challenge WBA super welterweight champion Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KOs) for his fourth world title in a different weight class. Should Crawford win, his top priority would undoubtedly be the current undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs), which would be a lucrative match.
Alvarez is also expected to defend his title in September or October, with Chris Eubank Jr. (33-3, 24 KOs) being the most likely opponent. As for Ennis, he is currently powerful but lacks box office appeal, and Crawford would only consider him if there were no better options available.
