Recently, Eddie Hearn, CEO of Matchroom Boxing, made a prediction to the media about the upcoming unification bout between current WBA Lightweight Champion Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) and IBF Lightweight Champion Vasiliy Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs). The two are expected to clash this November.
Eddie Hearn said: “Davis will likely be behind on points against Lomachenko, but the question is whether Davis can find an opportunity to KO Lomachenko. I believe he can, albeit it will be tough. Perhaps Lomachenko will be leading on points after six rounds, or even after ten. If the fight goes the full twelve rounds, I favor Lomachenko.”
Oscar De La Hoya, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, said: “I predict that this fight will be spectacular, but Davis is young and in his prime while Lomachenko is past his. I’m not being disrespectful to Lomachenko; he’s simply getting older. Now is the perfect time for Davis to dethrone Lomachenko, and the fight will definitely be intense.”
Last week, Davis’ assistant coach revealed that Lomachenko may not fight again in 2024, and it’s possible that Davis might choose to unify with current WBC Lightweight Champion Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) first.
