Recently, former WBO super-lightweight champion, American Chris Algieri (25-4, 9 KOs), told the media that current champions Dmitry Bivol (23-0, 12 KOs) and Artur Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs) have not yet done enough to be enshrined in the International Boxing Hall of Fame. However, the winner of their upcoming unification bout at light heavyweight could potentially earn a place.
Chris Algieri stated, “As of now, neither of these two are Hall of Fame worthy. But if they go through with the unification bout, the victor could make a strong case. After defeating Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs), Bivol is closer to that door. Bivol is still relatively young and has more big fights ahead of him. Beterbiev, on the other hand, is approaching 40, and preparing for fights becomes increasingly challenging. If Beterbiev defeats Bivol, it would indeed be a remarkable accomplishment. However, as of now, neither has faced or defeated any legendary boxers, so their records aren’t enough for the Hall of Fame just yet.”
Bivol and Beterbiev will collide in their highly anticipated light heavyweight unification bout on October 12, one of the most significant contests in boxing this year.
