Recently, two-weight division four-belt champion Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) revealed to the media that former heavyweight triple champion and elder statesman Wladimir Klitschko (64-5, 53 KOs) did not believe in his ability to succeed in the heavyweight division back then. However, Usyk proved himself by defeating Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) and Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs).
Said Usyk, “I prepared for a long time for the fight with Tyson Fury. I remember when I was fighting in Ukraine, I said I would unify the division, and Wladimir Klitschko laughed, or maybe he didn’t. I said I would challenge Anthony Joshua in three years, and Wladimir asked me if I was crazy. But then I really showed that I was crazy by defeating both Tyson Fury and Joshua.”
The 37-year-old Usyk twice defeated Joshua in 2021-2022 and conquered Tyson Fury in May of this year, becoming the first-ever four-belt champion in heavyweight history. Despite his slender frame in the division, Usyk’s technical skills, mobility, and boxing intelligence are at the highest level, compensating for any shortcomings in power and physique.
