Joshua Set for September Clash with Dubois

According to recent media reports, former WBA Super/IBF/WBO heavyweight champion, British Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs), has tentatively scheduled a showdown with current IBF interim heavyweight titleholder compatriot Daniel Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs) on September 21 at Wembley Stadium in London. The winner of this bout could become the IBF’s official heavyweight champion.

Joshua commented, “I said before the fight that Dubois had what it takes to beat Filip Hrgović (17-1, 14 KOs). Dubois has had several significant fights, whereas Hrgović only had one major one. It was his chance, and he took it. Now he’s challenging me, so let’s do it.”

Dubois stated, “Bring it on, Joshua. I aim to be the best in boxing, and that’s always been my goal. My time is coming.”

Previously, Dubois suffered losses to Joe Joyce (16-2, 15 KOs) and Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs). Despite his talent, he has shown a lack of resilience and fear of injury, making him less of a threat to Joshua. Moreover, as fellow Britons, the matchup presents good value for Joshua.

For Zhang Zhilei, Joshua is unlikely to choose him in the near future, as Zhang is considered a tough opponent. Although Zhang enjoys considerable support from Chinese fans, the number of people willing to pay for his fights might be limited to a small group of dedicated boxing enthusiasts. What matters isn’t how many people support you but the size of the paying audience willing to invest in your matches.
