Recently, promoter Bob Arum, speaking to the media, expressed his belief that Artur Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs), the Russian-born Canadian WBC/IBF/WBO light heavyweight champion, will emerge victorious against Dmitry Bivol (23-0, 12 KOs) in their unification bout on October 12.
Arum stated, “I like Beterbiev; he has more power than Bivol and is a true knockout artist. Surprisingly, Beterbiev is also adept at fighting for points, perhaps not as skillful as Bivol in that regard, but still quite capable. I anticipate Beterbiev wearing down Bivol throughout the contest and ultimately stopping him.”
In recent years, Beterbiev has had five fights postponed due to injuries, particularly issues with knee ligaments. Now 39 years old, he is six years older than Bivol, which might suggest he’s past his prime. However, the odds of the fight are still considered even, with both fighters having a fair chance of winning.
