Recently, WBC super middleweight interim champion David Benavídez (28-0, 24 KOs) shared his picks for the top five pound-for-pound boxers, with Japanese four-division world champion Naoya Inoue (27-0, 24 KOs) topping the list.
Said David Benavídez, “In my opinion, Naoya Inoue is the best. Number two is Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs), followed by Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) at number three. Fourth is Canelo Álvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs), and fifth is Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs). No, Crawford is fourth, and Álvarez is fifth.”
Benavídez is set to move up to light heavyweight to challenge former WBC titlist Eleider Álvarez (20-1, 16 KOs) next Sunday for the vacant WBC interim title at 175 pounds.
Currently, Canelo Álvarez is deliberating between facing either David Benavídez or Terence Crawford. While a loss to the physically imposing Benavídez might be more understandable, a defeat to the smaller, yet highly skilled Crawford could significantly undermine Álvarez’s standing in the boxing world.
