Fury Promoter: Usyk Is Nowhere Near As Good As Inoue

Recently, co-promoter of former two-time world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs), Todd DuBoef, told the media that he doesn’t consider Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) to be the best boxer in the sport today. Instead, he believes that Japanese four-division world champion Naoya Inoue (27-0, 24 KOs), known as “The Monster,” holds that distinction.

DuBoef said, “I think Naoya Inoue is the best fighter in boxing right now. Usyk isn’t even in the same league. The boxing rankings put too much emphasis on a fighter’s last performance. If you judge Usyk based on his fifth round against Tyson Fury, nobody would believe he’s the best in the world. People would ask, how can Usyk be number one after getting hit by every right hook from Fury? I don’t see Usyk as that formidable; everyone saw how Dubois dropped him with a body shot. Meanwhile, Inoue dominates opponents with his unique style.”

Usyk moved up from cruiserweight to heavyweight, where Fury and Joshua have a significant size advantage over him. Usyk relies on speed and agility, unable to trade power punches head-on. In contrast, the weight differences Inoue has bridged are only 3-4 pounds, making the impact of moving up a division less pronounced.
