The long-awaited update for CS enthusiasts has finally arrived!
The official CS account announced today that the game has undergone a substantial update. In a nutshell, the update aligns with previous leaks, mainly featuring new maps entering the game, all sourced from the community. Among them, some offer picturesque landscapes, such as Memento. Alongside the new maps, there are bug fixes for classic maps. The rest of the significant changes involve adjustments to in-game video settings, particularly deep integration with Nvidia graphics card functionalities, which is great news for CS players using Nvidia cards.
However, the anticipated big operation remains unannounced, suggesting that this update might be the delayed 25th-anniversary celebration patch for CS.
Here’s the complete update breakdown:
[Maps]
Community Maps
- Thera and Mills added to Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch map groups;
- Memento and Assembly added to the Duos map pool;
- Pool Day added to the Arms Race map pool.
Nuke
- C4 stuck spots fixed;
Ancient
- C4 stuck spots, map holes, and non-solid issues resolved;
Vertigo
- C4 stuck spots and collision issues addressed;
Anubis
- Grenade collisions and clipping issues corrected.
[UI]
- MVP panels updated for all game modes;
- New animated MVP panel added to Premier mode;
- New MVP achievement conditions added, with existing rules adjusted.
[Gameplay]
- In competitive matchmaking, a player’s skill group for each map will be displayed after two victories on that map.
[Video Settings]
- “Settings Suggestions” pop-up added if display refresh rate is set below its maximum at launch; generally advises using the monitor’s maximum refresh rate.
- “Settings Suggestions” pop-up if NVIDIA G-Sync support is detected but not enabled at launch; suggests using G-Sync if the system supports it.
- “Settings Suggestions” pop-up if NVIDIA G-Sync is enabled but V-Sync and/or NVIDIA Reflex are disabled; advises enabling all three available settings. Note that this limits the game’s frame rate to the monitor’s refresh rate or slightly lower, typically providing the smoothest look and lowest input latency.
- “Main Menu Background Scene” and “Gadget Inspection Background Scene” options removed from the “Video Settings” page but remain adjustable in their respective menus.
- “Refresh Rate” setting now shows the current refresh rate for windowed and full-screen windowed modes.
- “Laptop Battery Power Saving” setting removed, as it was never actually configured in the new CS version.
- “Frame Pacing” section added to the “Advanced Video” settings page.
- “NVIDIA G-Sync” toggle added to the “Frame Rate” section, indicating whether G-Sync is active under current display settings. May be hidden if using Vulkan renderer or non-NVIDIA graphics.
- “In-game Max FPS” and “Max FPS in Menu” sliders added, controlling fps_max and fps_max_ui convars, respectively.
- Default “Max FPS in Menu” increased from 120 FPS to 200 FPS.
- Advanced video preview now uses the in-game max FPS, not the menu max FPS.
