Paul Merson today suggested in a show that Jack Grealish’s exclusion from the England squad by Gareth Southgate is not due to lack of ability but rather because Grealish doesn’t hold the manager in high regard.
Merson commented: “Southgate replaced Grealish with Gordon and Palmer, but after two poor matches, neither of these players has seen a minute of action. I can imagine Grealish at home watching, going crazy. Southgate must have his reasons. I can picture Grealish confronting Southgate and asking, ‘Why aren’t they playing?’ I believe Southgate left Grealish out to avoid potential locker room conflict.”
“Southgate’s decision to bring on Bowen is baffling, and while Eze hardly touched the ball, it’s equally perplexing that he didn’t give Palmer a chance. Southgate seems to have no plan. If you’re bringing on Watkins, Kane should stay on the pitch, as in games of this magnitude, you need the world’s best players on the field.”
Merson: Southgate has nothing up his sleeve, that’s why Grealish wasn’t picked – he doesn’t respect him. Author:Sports UEFA.Please indicate the source when reproduced:https://www.sportsuefa.com/football-world/10024.html
