Big Data Predicts Euro 2024: France Remains Top Favorite, England's Chances of Winning Lag Behind the Netherlands

After the first two rounds of group matches in the European Championship, a Twitter user named “Football Meets Data” used big data to forecast the remainder of the tournament, with France and Spain emerging as the top favorites.

The blogger employed this simulation to determine the probabilities of each of the 24 teams’ final group standings and their chances of advancing through various rounds in the knockout stage.

According to the results, France, boasting an extravagant squad, remains the number one favorite with a 30% probability of reaching the final and a 17% chance of winning the title. Spain trails the French by just one percentage point, making them the second-most favored team in the simulation. Portugal, with a narrow margin, edges out Germany and the Netherlands to secure the third spot with a slightly higher probability.

England, who were initially tipped as the favorites before the tournament, have underperformed, with only a 9% chance of lifting the trophy, placing them sixth in the prediction.
