The Italian team will face Croatia in the final match of their Euro group stage, a decisive encounter for qualification. Defender Matteo Darmian, in an interview, stated that the Italian squad has recovered from the defeat against Spain and reignited their ambition.
Darmian made it clear that Italy has no intention of surrendering. He said, “We will carefully analyze the last game to avoid repeating mistakes and prepare thoroughly for Croatia. The team is in good shape, with a shared objective and determination to achieve a positive result. Losing is always disappointing, but it also provides learning opportunities. On Monday, we must approach the match with the right mindset to progress.”
Although a draw would theoretically secure Italy’s second place in the group, Darmian affirmed that the team won’t play for a stalemate. “We don’t play for draws,” he explained. “In the locker room, we have never discussed the scenario of being the best third-placed team. Against Croatia, our only aim is to win the match outright.”
Darmian will come up against his former teammate Marcelo Brozović, and he commented, “We will focus on playing our game and exploiting our strengths, not just concentrating on the opposition. Besides Brozović, Croatia has many talented players and a strong squad overall, so we need to be cautious while also expressing ourselves. We have a clear plan for the match.”
