Yesterday, Albanian Football Association (FA) President Duka attended the Euro Cup elimination match between England and Slovakia. After the game, Duka granted an interview to Kosovo’s media Klan Kosova, discussing England vs. Slovakia, Albania’s Euro Cup campaign, and the future of Manager Celino.
What are your thoughts on the England vs. Slovakia match?
Duka: It was a fantastic match. Slovakia was so close to advancing; it would have been great if they had made it. Unfortunately, they had bad luck at the end, conceding a goal and then another quickly in extra time.
How do you evaluate Albania’s journey in this Euro Cup?
Duka: I believe the team performed well in all three matches, or more precisely, in two and a half games – the first match’s first half and the following two. We’re not satisfied with the points, as we only managed one, but this was the toughest group in the tournament. Overall, the team played exceptionally well. Had we shown more courage and belief, we could have achieved more. The fans were incredible too, creating an atmosphere unparalleled in other matches, not just in terms of the vibe but in every aspect.
What about Manager Celino’s future?
I informed Celino that his contract would expire after the Euros, but we’ve reached an agreement on an extension. However, we haven’t signed anything formally yet. He’ll take a few days off, and we’ll meet again next week to continue discussing this matter and other tasks.
