Ruiz: This Spanish team will go down in history, now it’s time to beat Germany

On July 1st, Spain secured their spot in the quarter-finals of the European Championship with a 4-1 victory over Georgia. Midfielder Fabián Ruiz, who scored one goal and provided an assist in the match, believes this squad has the potential to etch its name alongside past Spanish legends.

Despite not having a guaranteed starting position alongside Rodri, and facing competition from teammate Merino, Ruiz is gradually solidifying his role in the national team. After scoring against Croatia in the group stage, he contributed another goal in the round of 16 to send Spain into the quarters.

In an interview with TVE after the match, Ruiz expressed his delight: “I’m very happy that we’ve advanced. This win was crucial, and we did it. We didn’t manage the ball well in the first half, the own goal put us on the back foot, but we turned things around in the second half. When Rodri scored, we regained control.”

Regarding Georgia, Ruiz gave them credit: “They slowed down the pace in the second half, while we were too eager in the first, trying to finish the game quickly, but it didn’t work out that way.”

Looking ahead to the quarter-final against hosts Germany, a team that has also impressed, Ruiz remained confident: “Any opponent is tough, and Germany is a strong team, especially playing at home. But we have faith in our abilities, we’re hungry to create new history for our country. It’ll be difficult, but against Germany, we’ll give our all to secure a victory.”
