On the early hours of July 2nd, Slovenia was eliminated from the UEFA Euro Round of 16 after losing 0-3 in a penalty shootout against Portugal. After the match, Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak shared his thoughts.
Oblak commented in his post-match interview, “When you see everything that happened today, it’s even harder to accept what has transpired. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as we had hoped. I’m at a loss for words, the atmosphere in the stadium was incredible, and that makes it even more difficult.”
“There’s not much else to say, especially just a few minutes after it ended. You saw what happened in extra time; we had a chance to score, but maybe we were a bit unlucky.”
“In the end, Portugal deserved the win, and we congratulate them. We’re not happy with the result, despite our best efforts to reach the quarterfinals. It wasn’t meant to be. Congratulations to Portugal – it’s a tough moment for us.”
