The highly anticipated quarter-final clash between Spain and Germany in this week’s Euro Cup has been dubbed a “battle for the ages” by German media, igniting an immense passion among fans from both nations.
German fans, in particular, are eager to avenge their past defeats, with Spain having ended Germany’s tournament runs twice – in the 2008 Euro Cup and the 2010 World Cup, both times lifting the trophy. Going back to the 1988 Euro Cup, when Germany defeated Spain 2-0 in a group match on home soil, that victory remains the last time the German team triumphed over Spain in an official competition.
Given the match’s significance, demand for tickets has skyrocketed. According to Bild, prices on the black market have reached staggering heights, with some scalpers asking as much as nearly €6,000 per ticket for seats in the third row in the central stand.
The report also highlights that exorbitant prices are not uncommon, with sellers demanding up to €11,800 for a pair of seats in later rows and €3,867 for a single VIP seat.
Despite the stadium in Stuttgart holding approximately 51,000 seats, it seems inadequate in the face of such intense demand.
In response to this spectacle, Spanish authorities are working to secure 20,000 seats for their traveling fans to accommodate the surge of enthusiasm within the country. A wave of excitement is sweeping across Spain, with many planning to travel to Germany to witness the showdown.
