In this year’s Euros, England stumbled their way to the quarter-finals, and Manchester City star Foden’s performances have been a subject of criticism. In a recent interview, he addressed his own and the team’s situation.
Foden said, “To be honest, it’s frustrating for me. I want to score goals and give my best for England, but it hasn’t worked out that way yet. But I still need to maintain a positive mindset. I was one of the best players in the Premier League last season, but I haven’t shown that in the Euros. I’m improving in every game, and my goal is to help England achieve good results.”
Regarding the perceived conflict with Bellingham over positions, Foden remarked, “My performances for Manchester City this season prove that I’m more suited to playing centrally, where I can score more goals. I’ve always believed that my ideal position is in midfield. However, I don’t agree with the notion that I can’t play alongside Bellingham. I think we can still work together in matches.”
Touching upon Southgate, Foden commented, “I feel sorry for those external comments. Southgate has never implemented a strategy of defending when leading. In training, he tells us to keep pressing forward. But sometimes, what happens on the pitch is decided by the players. We, as players, need to take responsibility and do better to achieve better outcomes.”
