On June 25, according to several reports from French newspaper L’Equipe and British Sky Sports, Paris Saint-Germain has turned down Manchester United’s offer for Uruguayan midfielder Ugarte, but negotiations are not entirely closed.
Manchester United’s interest in PSG’s central midfielder is no secret, with Ten Hag looking to strengthen the midfield position during the summer transfer window. Ugarte joined PSG last summer from Sporting Lisbon for a transfer fee of £51.1 million, with his contract at the Parc des Princes running until June 2028.
Last season, Ugarte made 34 appearances across all competitions for PSG, contributing to their Ligue 1 title win. Despite some instability in his position towards the end of the campaign, he has caught the attention of other European clubs. In addition to Manchester United’s bid, there is reported interest from clubs in Italy’s Serie A and Germany’s Bundesliga.
Ugarte is currently with the Uruguayan national team competing in the Copa América, and discussions surrounding his potential transfer continue. It is understood that PSG has not definitively shut the door on talks, leaving the possibility open for him to change clubs this summer.
