On July 7th, both the UEFA European Championship and the Copa America reached their semifinals, inevitably inviting comparisons between the two concurrent tournaments. In terms of total squad values, the Copa America’s four remaining teams are worth less than a quarter of their European counterparts, clearly showing a disparity.
The Euro 2024 semifinalists are France, Spain, England, and the Netherlands, all boasting star-studded squads. According to Transfermarkt data, England leads with a valuation of 1.52 billion euros, followed by France at 1.23 billion euros. Spain’s total squad value is 965.5 million euros, while the Netherlands’ stands at 815 million euros. The combined total for the Euro 2024 semifinalists amounts to an impressive 45.305 billion euros.
The Copa America semifinalists consist of Argentina, Canada, Uruguay, and Colombia. Argentina has the highest valuation at 805 million euros, followed by Uruguay at 480.1 million euros, Colombia at 282.9 million euros, and Canada at 181 million euros. The combined total for the Copa America’s last four teams is just 17.49 billion euros.
In contrast, the Copa America semifinalists’ combined value amounts to only a fourth of that of the Euro 2024 teams, highlighting a significant gap between the two continental competitions.
