Lukaku's Unlucky Streak: He Now Fears Celebrating Goals

According to the Associated Press, during an interview with the media ahead of Belgium’s group match against Ukraine, Doku shared his thoughts on Lukaku’s situation. He mentioned that his teammate has been unlucky, as he used to score frequently but now hesitates and fears celebrating his goals.

If there were a competition for the unluckiest player in this Euro tournament so far, Lukaku would likely top the list. Despite scoring three goals, all have been disallowed by VAR. His first goal against Slovakia was ruled offside, the second was nullified due to an earlier handball by Openda, and against Romania, his goal was again overturned for a marginal offside decision.

Addressing Lukaku’s struggles, his national team colleague Doku said, “He used to enjoy scoring immensely, but now he’s apprehensive even when he does score and is afraid to celebrate. It’s just bad luck. But he’s happy because we won our last game. Of course, as a striker, he always wants to score and cares about his personal stats, which is natural. However, he’s content with the impact he’s having on the team and the chances he’s creating. If you watch the games, you can see how crucial he is. Even though he hasn’t found the back of the net, he provided an assist, which is equally significant.”
