On June 25th, Lorient FC officially announced the appointment of former Le Havre manager Elsner as their new head coach through a video presentation.
In early May, Lorient parted ways with young manager Stiel, subsequently allowing Diawara to finish the last three matches of the season. The club’s 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign concluded with a record of 13 wins, 8 draws, and 13 losses, amassing 47 points and finishing in 9th place on the table.
The 41-year-old Elsner retired from playing in 2012 and has previously managed clubs such as Sint-Truiden, Amiens, and Standard Liège. He was at the helm of Le Havre from June 2022 until June 2024, guiding them to the top of Ligue 2 in the 2022/23 season, securing promotion to Ligue 1, and leading the team to a 15th-place finish in the 2023/24 season, narrowly avoiding relegation.
