Less than two hours before kick-off, an estimated 10,000 England fans without tickets are still in the heart of Düsseldorf.
The Burgplatz fan zone is almost full, with a predominantly English crowd enjoying electronic music played by a DJ. Riverside bars are thriving, with Three Lions supporters dancing on tables.
A West Brom fan told reporters, “We don’t have tickets, but we don’t mind. I just hope we’re all cheering at the final whistle.”
Chief Mirror reporter Andy Lines comments, “Düsseldorf is buzzing this afternoon. England and Switzerland fans are happily mixing together. I’ve seen lots of kids from six to 15 years old, clearly here with their parents for the match on Saturday. One mum assured me, don’t worry, he’ll be back in school on Monday morning!”
