The 2024 UEFA European Championship is in full swing, and according to official data released by UEFA, the tournament has set a new record in terms of revenue, with the organization’s total income projected to reach €2.5 billion. Each participating player stands to earn up to €400,000 in bonuses.
The Euros, second only to the UEFA Champions League in revenue globally, have seen television broadcasting rights alone fetch €1.44 billion, while commercial revenues have amounted to €568 million. Ticket sales have contributed over €300 million, and stadium revenues could touch €100 million, making this edition of the Euros significantly more lucrative than the previous one three years ago. As a result, substantial bonus distributions are being made to national associations, players, and clubs alike under UEFA’s inclusive policy.
Player bonuses will be drawn from the association’s share, with the winning team’s national federation receiving €28.25 million. Each team reaching the finals gets €9.25 million, and a victory in the group stage earns €1 million. From the round of 16 onwards, progression to the next stage comes with increasing rewards. For the players, advancing to the round of 16 earns €180,000, quarterfinals €255,000, semifinals €300,000, and reaching the final nets them €400,000.
As mentioned earlier, clubs also benefit from the revenue distribution, with UEFA paying €10,000 per day for each player from a top-flight club during the competition. Referees officiating at the Euros will also receive substantial bonuses. For instance, the base fee for a group-stage match referee is €5,000, increasing to €7,500 for the round of 16, €12,500 for the quarterfinals, €15,000 for the semis, and a €20,000 reward for officiating the final.
