Italy’s unexpected elimination in the round of 16 of the Euros against Switzerland has sparked numerous discussions, and former QPR owner Flavio Briatore has chimed in with his thoughts. He claims that Roberto Mancini’s Italy was too cautious, suggesting that the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) might consider bringing in Massimiliano Allegri as a replacement.
Briatore said, “The elimination is shocking, the biggest disaster in the team’s history. The match was a mess, the players looked like they were playing together for the first time. They had their heads down, not knowing where to stand.”
“Perhaps Spalletti’s arrogance prevented him from building a real team and instead created a group of timid children. Now even players like Chiesa and Barella appear characterless.
“Losing can happen, but the way Italy lost is unacceptable. At the end of the game, the players seemed quite happy, or at least relieved.”
Briatore added, “In my opinion, Allegri would regain his status as a top coach with the Italy national team. He wouldn’t face the same pressure he does in club football, and he has vast experience. We won the last Euros not because we were the best team, but because we were very united.”
