The Japanese Olympic team recently announced its new squad for the Paris Olympics, and among those omitted was Kosei Matsuki, who served as vice-captain during the U23 Asian Cup, sparking media discussion.
When asked about Matsuki and other players who didn’t make the cut, Oiwa said he preferred not to discuss those not on the list, emphasizing, “This is not because there is an issue with Matsuki’s form.”
“Matsuki might transfer, but the main reason is that we couldn’t ensure his availability for the Olympics,” added Masahiro Yamamoto, the director of the Japanese national team.
Matsuki currently plays for Tokyo FC and helped the Japanese U23 team win the Asian Cup this year, scoring against China in the group stage.
