Recently, Spanish football legend Andrés Iniesta officially became the spokesperson for a domestic food delivery company in Spain, which is also an official sponsor of La Liga. During a brand event, Iniesta discussed Spain’s prospects for the European Cup, commented on young players, and shared his future plans.
What is the most unforgettable assist of your career?
Iniesta: I’ve played so many matches, and there are indeed several assists that stand out in my memory. I would say it was the assist to Jesús Navas in the 2012 European Cup match against Croatia.
Navas is still playing; do you envy him?
Iniesta: I’m very happy with the current state of the national team. As a fan, a player, or any other role, I hope to experience these moments myself, even when I’m 80 years old. England has a chance to win the title, but I hope Spain can maintain its current level, which gives us a great opportunity to triumph. Our national team always instills a lot of security and confidence in me, whether we win or lose, we are a true team. This Spanish squad is deeply committed to their work, with a rich diversity, unsettling wingers, and a game-controlling core. Although wins and losses are normal, I have no doubt they will win this final.
How does this national team compare to the one that created a dynasty during your time with Spain?
Iniesta: As I said earlier, this national team instills a lot of confidence in me, not just their starting eleven, but also the players coming off the bench perform at a high level. I hope we can win the championship on Sunday, that’s what we all wish for. Can we win the next World Cup and European Cup? I don’t know, but I hope so. It seems the whole world is betting on Spain, but we also know winning isn’t easy.
About Xavi’s departure and Barcelona’s current situation?
Iniesta: Barcelona has entered a new phase, hiring a foreign coach and tackling new issues in a different way. I had hoped Xavi would continue, as he means a lot to me. I hope he leads Barcelona to compete for all titles, and as a Barcelona fan, I hope the club maintains stability over the long term.
Will you return to Barcelona in the future?
Iniesta: I still want to keep playing until the moment I truly feel I should stop arrives. After retirement, if I enjoy coaching, I’ll get my coaching license and see how things unfold. Of course, I hope to return to Barcelona someday, but when and in what capacity is still unknown.
